On this International Women’s Day, we are highlighting Assistant Professor Ipek Ensari, PhD, whose work aims to use mobile health and machine learning methods for complex patient-generated data to improve disease characterization and patient self-management. Her work is grounded in women’s reproductive health conditions and populations at increased risk for health disparities. As she explains: “Utilizing AI in women’s reproductive health research is pivotal, especially for chronic conditions that are not well-documented. Combined with mHealth technology, AI methods enable us to collect, harmonize, and summarize large volumes of data, which improves our understanding of the patient experience.”Watch Dr. Ensari’s discuss her work in this lecture at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam:

Meet Ipek Ensari, PhD, an Assistant Professor at HPI•MS whose research focuses on women’s health. She first became interested in the subject of reproductive health during her doctoral program, when she learned how many unanswered questions remained in the field: “I learned more about women's reproductive health and the existence of the open gaps in the field, especially the value of direct patient input to add to traditional clinical data sources for addressing some of these gaps.”Learn more about Dr. Ensari’s ongoing research: https://lnkd.in/gGuawXgW

🔬 From the insightful words of our Medical Director, Dr. Norbert Gleicher: 'Society cannot be surprised by the desire of women to extend their reproductive period into what currently is menopause. Society, science, and medicine, therefore, have an obligation to accommodate.' This powerful statement opens up a critical conversation on women's reproductive health and the evolving role of medical science. 🌐 Dive deeper into Dr. Gleicher's thought-provoking perspective in the December edition of The Voice. Don't miss the full article that explores this significant topic in detail. UK-Belgium strengthening life sciences collaboration & marking theUNInternational Day of Women and Girls in Science:"Her Health Matters : A cross-channel dialogue on Women’s Reproductive Health"On 22ndFebruary, the British Ambassador to Belgium, Martin Shearman and his team, Anais Biclot (Science and innovation officer) organized this amazing event and brought togetherthe policy, scientific and femtech community on the subject ofreproductive health and disease. A huge 'Thank You'.Dame Lesley Reganshared her insights as Ambassador for theWomen’s health strategy for Englanda mission launched in August 2022. This inspiring event brought enormous insights and huge learnings from: #thevagin*lmicrobiome, #menstruation and other socio-scientific aspects of women’s reproductive health that are still taboo, #endometriosis it’s genetic basis and co-morbidities with other inflammatory conditions, #inequalityinwomen’shealthresearch, and innovative technology for improved cancer diagnosisI had the unique honor and great pleasure to have a discussion with Dame Lesley Regan addressing Women’s health across life from a cardiovascular perspective. Cardiovascular diseases in women are underdiagnosed, undertreated and remain the number one killer in men as well as women, taking the toll of one out of three women worldwide.Diseases are not fought in silos!·For a holistic approach to #women’shealthacrosstheirlife we must aim at a #multidisciplinaryapproach beyond sexual and reproductive health addressing the total #globalwomen’shealthburden.50% of this burden affects women of working age.·Investing in women’s health research is priority! #WHAM #3not30·#WorldEconomicForum emphasized the importance of redesigning healthcare with women in mind.·#womencentriccarepathways are needed to close the #genderhealthcaregap·We must create awareness and education for women, health care professionals and public at large.

To reduce morbidities, fatalities, and other socioeconomic repercussions, a strategy for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) must identify research, policy, and practice gaps. Working together with the Sidama Public Health Institute, Hawassa, and Sussex Universities, we were able to identify the gaps that needed to be filled in order to inform future research, practice, and policy.
