What is hyziny cream used for? ›

Hydroxyzine is used in adults and children to relieve itching caused by allergic skin reactions. It is also used alone or with other medications in adults and children to relieve anxiety and tension.

Lidocaine and hydrocortisone combination is used to relieve pain and itching caused by conditions such as hemorrhoids, sunburn, minor burns, insect bites or stings, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, minor cuts, or scratches.

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic agent commonly used for local and topic anesthesia, but it also has antiarrhythmic, and analgesic uses and can be used as an adjunct to tracheal intubation. It is a tertiary amine and is a class Ib antiarrhythmic agent on the Vaughan-Williams classification.

Lidocaine provides rapid relief from the pain, itching, and burning by temporarily numbing the affected area. Hydrocortisone provides relief from the redness, irritation, and itching associated with hemorrhoids by blocking the release of inflammatory chemicals.

Hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril) and alprazolam (Xanax) are two commonly prescribed anti-anxiety medications. Both medications kick in quickly and share some common side effects, such as drowsiness and dry mouth. Alprazolam — especially high doses — can be habit-forming, but hydroxyzine does not have this risk.

Hydroxyzine has the potential to block hERG channels and other types of cardiac channels, resulting in a potential risk of QT interval prolongation and cardiac arrhythmia events.

Lidocaine skin creams such as EMLA, Denela and Nulbia may not be suitable for people with porphyria, methaemoglobinaemia or G6PD deficiency because they contain a combination of local anaesthetics.
